Nanotechnology and Modern Medicine: STEM workshop highlights
Bravo Medical Magnet High School is located in the proximity of the USC Health Science campus in Los Angeles, CA, and thus it is no surprise that their focus is on heath care. We definitely showed the 35 participating students how much nanotechnology there is in modern medicine. This workshop was a followup from the “teacher the teachers” training session at UCLA’s CNSI we are involved with. We are glad Mai Lee, executive director of HYPE LA, was able to attend.
Some quotes/comments from the students include:
– I really enjoyed finding out that nanotechnology was growing to be such a huge part in our life, and the idea of using nanoparticles to help treat different diseases, like cancer, is very exciting.
– I got to explore new materials that I didn’t even know existed already.
– Learning about what falls underneath the nanotechnology field and discovering some materials that are used today.
Today’s workshops were sponsored by a Community Grant from Edison International.
